Do you plan a trip to Brazil? You ask yourself whether your mobile phone will work in Brazil?
If you come from a country where GSM is the standard for mobile phones then there is a good change that your phone will work.
Almost all mobile phone bought in Europe the last 3 to 5 years will work. Dual-Band an Tri-Band models are most likely to work. Of course you have to check whether your provider has roaming agreement with Brazil mobile phone operators.
The last two, three years I travelled in many different regions of Brazil. GSM coverage was almost everywhere. Of course in cities but also on the road between them.
SMS does work. Receiving calls often don’t show the callers number. Keep an eye on the costs! Check the homepage of your operator!
Some technical background for GSM usage: The US and all the countries in south America – except Brazil – uses the 1900MHz band frequencies (used in tri-band phones). European countries and Brazil use the 1800MHz band frequencies (used in dual-band phones).
By the way: Mobile phones in Brazil are called “Cellular”.
