Christmas in Brazil

2005 I spent Christmas in SÃ£o Paulo. Here my impressions:

Already in November and naturally particularly in December Einkaufszenter and some public mechanisms Christmas are decorated. Many lights and flashlights are installed. Sometimes also one sees more and more the red Santa Claus usually in shopping centres or also on the road and even on Toeffs has I unites seen. Nikolaus does not know one for it Santa Claus here. For me that was in each case a somewhat amusing feeling. If I Santa Claus or a Weihnachtsbeleuchtung see so assoziere I automatically also cold and to snow. But it is hot here and one sweats and some people e.g. at cashes or gas stations wears a red cap. That works then really somewhat amusingly.

The shopping centres become fuller and fuller. But nevertheless very many people seem to go only there over look, since they do not buy the money to have. Naturally there are also many which gifts buys.

At the Weihnachtstag one sees then increases people grill, tables and chairs at the roadside to set up. Naturally not on the main street, but in the accomodation. The families sit then on evening together and eat and drink together and make party. I saw none to Christmas tree in the dwelling. Also I did not see such buying anywhere.

In the evening I was invited I for a party. It was a mixture from Weihnachtsparty and birthday party, because the host had to 25.12. Birthday. Were so approx.. 30 persons present. There was a grill and each quantity of meat and salmon, as well as beer. One was gemaestet correctly. The meat did not want to stop any longer. Afterwards gift it cakes and fruits. The whole time ran a television with DVD Home Cinema system with local Forro and Calypso music.

Before midnight all 30 people made a circle short and one prayed a short prayer. Over midnight all into the arms and wished themselves mutually glad Weihnachen fell itself. Some people gegannen to cry. I do not have understood why. Was explained to me, it remembered things of the past yearly and the life and for itself. Afterwards everywhere fireworks and bang bodies were ignited. This took one hour then approximately. That was somewhat amusing for me. In Europe rather at New Year so celebrated, more daber surely not at Christmas.

With full belly and I made somewhat drunk on the way home I still somewhat to then sleep itself there wanted. Because at 8 o’clock I had to already again rise with the bus after Florianopolis to travel over all day long. That were really times different Christmas than in Europe with snow and church!
